Hotel de la Cite is a landmark former Cathar fort, set in stone walled gardens next to the Basilica of Saint Nazaire, three kilometres from the 17th century Canal du Midi. The hotel features 61 guestrooms, over three floors, which are classically decorated in light colours with rich wooden furniture. All offer air conditioning, cable television, desks, direct dial phones, dial up Internet access, minibars, safes and slippers. Bathrooms have bathrobes and hair dryers.
The hotel has several dining options: La Barbacane is a grand, wood panelled dining room with stained glass windows, offering an � la carte menu with an emphasis on regional cuisine and produce; Chez Saskia is an informal brasserie serving buffet breakfasts; and Le Jardin de l'Eveque offers al fresco dining on the tree lined terrace with views of the surrounding countryside. Guests can relax by the pool, stroll in the private gardens, and escape to the shade of the pool bar for a cocktail. The concierge can advise on the best that Carcassonne has to offer, and there is free wireless Internet access in the lobby for those with laptops. Practical amenities include 24 hour front desk, a safe deposit box, currency exchange and free parking. The hotel is in an excellent position to explore the surrounding area; the Cathar Castles are16 kilometres away and the hotel is conveniently located two kilometres from Carcassonne train station.
